Hana Yori Dango is a romantic drama about a girl named Makino Tsukushi and a battle with her heart. Makino worked hard to get a scholarship into a prestigious high school called Eitoku Garden. Normally only those with rich parents can go there because it's a very expensive school. The Makino family is very poor and strives to make her payments for school. Makino wants to go through high school being noticed as little as possible and to never run into trouble with the F4. She is walking her classmate, Makiko and they decide to become friends. Excited, to have a new friend at school, Makiko accidentally falls down the stairs and right onto the leader of the F4, Domyouji!! She apologizes, but Domyouji is not so forgiving. Makino, not wanting to see her new friend in trouble, stands up to the F4 and tells them to leave her friend alone. The next day, Makino finds a red tag in her locker- a declaration of war with the F4. She is tortured and treated like dirt from all of her classmates and no one is allowed to talk to her under penalty of also being red carded. At one point, Makino is saved by a member of the F4 named Hanazawa Rui. She's overwhelmed by Rui and is entranced by his marble-like eyes. Later on, Tsukushi declares war on the F4 and kicks Domoyouji square in the face. This show of power and determination greatly impresses Domoyouji and he pursues Makino and tries to date with her. Oh no! But Tsukushi is stricken with Rui! What's a girl to do?!
