Untitled 4
I was the only one that cried that day
as she came down the grassy pathway
the sun shining down on her as if she descended from heaven
An elegant white gown made her skin look all the fairer.
A tear sailed down my cheek, the light
reflecting a memory.
That last summer I spent with her in innocence and fun
working on projects together -- she was my self esteem
Powerful unspoken bonds connected us as we
shared the sorrow of our lives
but continued on in peace until the sun set
signaling the time for rest
We'd whisper in the darkness until we
fell asleep on the same floor her father's feet couldn't reach
as he died.
Tears hit my soft blue gown
when I passed her the ring
to slip on the finger of that undeserving man
that mortal man she bent to her will
submitting completely - at least for now
Taking away my responsibility to
protect her and always be the one to make her smile
at the worst of life.
He provides no castle or riches she deserves,
Nor ability to bend time and space at her whim
Yet while they are together in their trash hold living quarters
He can't help but make me smile
Knowing she is contented.
